Being a first time user to Tweetdeck I found that it is an extremely useful and convenient source to schedule when your tweets go out. The tweets below are scheduled at appropriate times of what is taking place at school and mentions being a graphic designer. This will be extremely useful in my future career if I ever have to do social media for whatever company I will be working for and it will also help with my timing of the tweets if I’m too busy to tweet something at that time.
This was also such an easy system to use, it was pretty much as easy as doing an actual tweet. All that I had to was go to to the new tweet icon and then you could write your tweet out and then you could pick the date and time when the Tweet would be displayed. I think this site will not only be a convenience in my work life but my personal life as well.

The second Networking Event that I attended was called the Creative Crawl which was created by Grand Valley’s Advertisement club. At this event we all met at Grand Rapids Brewing Company and then we broke up into four different groups and walked around downtown Grand Rapids to four different Ad agencies.
The first place we went to was Grey Matter Group which was a smaller agency where they had clients like New Holland Brewing Company and Old Orchard. The next place we went to was Adtegrity which did not like to call themselves an agency, they talked about how AdWords is a huge part of what they do and they also talked about how they do a lot of SEO/SEM. We then mucked through the pouring rain all the way to Experience GR which talked about how their campaign helped bring people, specifically from Chicago, to Grand Rapids and they showed us some of the Grand Rapids commercials they created. The final place we visited was People Design which I felt I was the most in my element there. It was on the smaller side, but that didn’t stop them to working with big clients like Herman Miller and they did Grand Valley’s Laker Effect campaign.
I was so happy that I attended this event, it allowed me to get a feel for the type of place that I would like to work. We also got to ask them questions on what it’s like to be doing what they do and we also got a lot of helpful advice.

I have already applied to around 10 internships and have only heard back from 2 of them. I never thought applying for jobs and finding an internship would be such a difficult process. However, I got 2 interviews from them, I may not have got the job but the interview experience I got from it was worth all of my time in effort.
Using sites like LinkedIn and Indeed has helped finding jobs in my career so much easier to find and is the reason I was able to apply for 10 internships. Below I listed some Graphic Design Internships that I would like to apply to and also the types of jobs that I would like to apply to when I graduate. One of the Graphic Design careers that I thought would be really cool to apply to in the future would be the creative content director for WZZM 13, I think a lot of the technological requirements match with what I’ve been learning in my graphic design classes. I have also listed below all of the technology that you need to have knowledge of when applying for the job. I found it really cool that we had learned about many of the technologies in this class (Technology in Public Relations and Advertising).

I recently went on a Creative Crawl to experience what it would be like to work at an Ad Agency, during that I visited four different agencies and three of them that focused more on Advertising said that a lot of the skills that would be helpful in this career, aren’t being taught in school. One common skill that was mentioned was to be familiar with AdWords. One of the companies (Adtegrity) even mentioned that they would be very impressed if people’s resumes did mention that they were AdWords certified, since that is such a huge part of what they do on an every day basis.
I was pretty proud of myself after completing this because I know it will be useful knowledge for any graphic design or advertising jobs I apply for, and just being able to add another skill on my resume feels like an accomplishment. Even if I decide to work for a strictly graphic design company, I really feel like this will come in handy on what words to focus on if I design a poster or a website. This will especially hold true if I decide to do website design or my own personal graphic design website. I will know how to get my website to be one of the first to be displayed and the background of how AdWords works.
In addition, I hope to get certified in Google Analytics over the summer as well, just to have a better of understanding on how it all works. Getting Adwords certified was also just a simple test and a few short videos, it was not this insane test that took hours on end. I also found the videos to be extremely helpful to my understanding and they were also very simple and easy to comprehend. I am definitely a visual learner so I was pleased to see that we would be learn through videos versus studying a book on Google AdWords.
I would really like to utilize these free certifications and tutorials that can help me further my skills with advertising and graphic design. I would like to take advantage of these this summer to become the best I can be in my field. There is still so much I would like to learn and I think it is up to me to teach myself a lot of skills that I think will be relevant for applying to jobs. For example, there are a lot of skills that I don’t know how to do that are on job listings, so why not teach myself and get as far ahead as I can be. There will be so much competition for similar positions in the future and I think doing this will help me to stand out.

I really enjoyed creating my personal brand through a business card because being a Graphic Design Major we are constantly using InDesign so it was cool being able to use the software for a different class. I also think having a business card and knowing how to make them will be extremely beneficial when applying for jobs and branding yourself to a company.
My process of making the business card was first making a personal logo, and the incorporating that into the business card. I also wanted it to coincide with my resume so I used the same colors and shapes that I used on my resume. I also used the font Futura in both my resume and business card. I wanted to show my personal brand by stating that I’m a graphic designer and by showing that I’m proficient in InDesign and Illustrator by designing my own personal logo.

I attended the mentor speeding dating event that was a networking event created through Ad Club and took place at Grand Rapids Brewing Company. This was a great way for me to meet professionals in fields that I’m interested in. I got the privilege of meeting people like the Creative Manager at Founders Brewing Company and the Owner of Auxiliary Advertising and Design, and numerous others. I was able to talk to them about what their typical day looked liked at their job and what advice they could give me moving forward as a Graphic Designer. I got a better idea of what it would look like to work at a bigger or smaller company and it helped me think about what kind of work environment I would like to work at in my future.
I am hoping to attend more networking events like this one to get my name out there and to meet more professionals. I think these events will help lead to more connections and opportunities. This has already helped me to discover a few internship opportunities as well.

Welcome to my website, where I talk about topics like website media and graphic design for social media. My website is currently being used for public relations writing and for my advertisement class, where I talk about my love for graphic design as much as I can. I am currently minoring in Advertisement and PR because I think learning about advertising on social networks will help my future graphic design career where I am hoping to design for social media and website design.
My current assignment is for my advertisement and PR class where we learn to use Google AdWord’s where we use the keyword tool. You then put in your ‘landing page’ and enter keywords that have to do with your brand. AdWords then will show keyword ideas that are recommended to your topic, location and the keywords that you enter. You can also put in negative words which are words you don’t want associated with your website when people search. For example, I put in words and phrases like “bad design” and “badly made websites.” That can really take away from your credibility if your website comes up when people search bad design.

The assignment for this week was to create a video and a storyboard that has to incorporate your brand. This was definitely a challenging assignment for me because I never really create videos, let alone edit them on Final Cut. You will definitely be able to tell this after watching my video. But overall, I was very glad that I was able to learn a little bit about Final Cut and it gave me a new appreciation for video editors because I had no idea it could be so confusing.
I also struggled with thinking of someway to incorporate graphic design into a video. So I decided to do a sort of tutorial video for people who are interested in becoming graphic designers and don’t know where to start. I apologize prior to me and my boyfriends acting abilities, or just speaking abilities in general.
This is my storyboard showing that someone is upset about not knowing where to go to start learning design and I come and help him get started. I actually had a lot of fun creating the storyboard, I felt it was like creating a comic.
Photoshop is such a fun way to show creativity and is a great way to edit photos. I think it’s really nice to get experiment with Adobe Creative Cloud because it will be really useful to use in the real world. Being a Graphic Design major, we use PhotoShop for almost all our assignments so it was a nice little break to do something I was more familiar with.
I chose the cityscape because I thought it would be interesting to replace a building with a giraffe, specifically the tallest building since it kind of resembles a giraffe. So I thought it would make the picture more interesting. I also thought it would be cool to add the reflection of the giraffe in the water.

I decided to stick with the Graphic Design theme because I think it would be beneficial to have different websites talking about what Graphic Design means to me and what it’s like to be a designer. And I wanted to take advantage of this assignment to talk more about my work and my experience as an Art and Design student thus far.
We had the option of choosing to use either http://piktochart.com/ or http://infogr.am/ to create my infographic I chose to use Piktochart because I use Indesign all the time and I found it to be similar to that and it made it much easier for me to use. I really enjoyed creating an Infographic, it was fun to change the text and add pictures that looked visually appealing. I also added some of my Graphic Design work that I made in my classes to use as a kind of portfolio reference if I ever wanted to show this to possible employers. Overall, I had a really fun time making this and it was super easy to use for someone who has never used Piktochart before.
